So I been having this pain in my upper back and got really scared cause I heard back pain can be a sign of cancer?? Like omg what if?? I started freaking out and googling stuff lol.
But then I thought maybe it’s not always cancer, maybe it’s something else? So I looked up more and here’s what I found (trying not to panic lol):
Can cancer cause upper back pain?
Well yeah, in some rare cases cancer can cause pain in upper back. Like if cancer is in the spine or spread there, it can hurt. Also cancer in lungs or pancreas or stuff close by can sometimes feel like back pain.
BUT most of the time upper back pain is not cancer. It’s usually muscle pain or bad posture or sleeping wrong or something simple like that.
When should you really worry?
If your back pain comes with other symptoms, you should go to doctor like ASAP:
-
Losing weight for no reason
-
Night sweats or fever
-
Pain that gets worse and never goes away
-
Numbness or weakness in arms or legs
-
Trouble peeing or pooping
-
Pain that’s really bad even when resting
If you have any of these, don’t wait, get checked.
Most common reasons for upper back pain (not cancer)
-
Muscle strain from exercise or lifting
-
Sitting hunched over computer or phone too much
-
Stress making your muscles tight
-
Sleeping weird or bad mattress
-
Minor injuries you might forget about
What to do if you got upper back pain?
-
Try stretching and rest
-
Use heat or cold packs
-
Fix your posture, don’t slouch all day
-
If pain lasts long or gets worse, see a doctor
-
If you got scary symptoms (like above) get help fast!
Final thoughts
Upper back pain is almost never cancer. It’s usually just muscle or posture stuff. But if your pain is really bad or you have other symptoms, don’t ignore it.
So don’t freak out too much, but listen to your body and go to doctor if u worried.
