how to prevent hair loss

Hair loss is one of those things that hits you outta nowhere. One day your hair’s fine, next thing u know there’s a pile of it in your brush or on the floor and ur like… wtf is happening

But don’t worry – it’s not always permenant. And most times, there’s things u can do to prevent hair fall or at least slow it down a lot. Here’s some real stuff ppl do that actually helps (if you do it consistently, not just once every 2 weeks ).

1. Don’t skip oiling (seriously)

Everyone’s grandma said it, and they were right. Oiling your scalp helps a lot. It improves blood flow, nourishes roots and can even calm stress. Use:

  • Coconut oil (classic)

  • Castor oil (good for thickness)

  • Rosemary oil (few drops mixed in – proven to help growth)

Massage gently, don’t scratch your scalp like ur mad at it. Leave oil for few hours or overnight, then wash. 2–3x a week is good.

2. Fix your diet

You can’t expect good hair if ur living off chips, instant noodles and soda. Sorry but it’s true. Hair needs protein, iron, zinc, biotin, omega-3s and more.

Try to eat more:

  • Eggs

  • Spinach

  • Fish

  • Nuts & seeds

  • Beans

  • Fruits like berries and oranges

  • And drink enough water!! Like 2-3L daily

Lot of ppl see improvment in hair just by fixing what they eat.

3. Use gentle shampoo

Some shampoos are lowkey evil. If yours has sulfates, parabens, alcohol, perfume – throw it out. These dry out your scalp and cause more hair fall.

Go for:

  • Sulfate-free shampoos

  • Herbal or mild brands

  • Don’t overwash – 2 to 3 times a week is enough for most ppl

  • And never use hot water – makes hair weak

Also: conditioner only on the ends, NOT the scalp

4. Ditch the heat & tight styles

Using straightner, dryer, curling iron every day? That’s prob ruining your hair. Heat damages the strands and makes them fall out easier.

And those super tight ponytails or buns? They pull at the roots and cause traction alopecia – a fancy word for hair loss from pulling too much.

Let your hair chill sometimes. Loose styles, air-dry when u can, and use heat protectant if u must style.

5. Chill out (for real)

Stress = hair fall. It’s not just a saying, it’s science. When you’re always stressed, cortisol goes up and that messes with your hair growth cycle.

Try to find ways to calm down:

  • Sleep more (7–8 hrs min)

  • Do yoga or walk daily

  • Meditate (even 5 mins a day helps)

  • Talk to someone if ur overwhelmed

Sometimes hair fall is just your body’s way of saying “yo I need a break”.

6. Watch out for health issues

Hair loss can happen from inside stuff like:

  • Thyroid problems

  • PCOS (in women)

  • Iron deficiency

  • Vitamin D or B12 low

  • Hormonal imbalance

  • Even some meds

If ur losing tons of hair suddenly, go see a doctor and get a blood test. Fixing those issues can make hair stop falling.

7. Home remedies that might help

Not everyone’s into DIY but here’s some that actually work for some people:

  • Onion juice – stinks, but really works for some. Rub on scalp, wait 20–30 mins, wash.

  • Aloe vera – calming, helps dandruff too

  • Fenugreek paste (methi) – soak overnight, grind, apply.

  • Green tea rinse – helps stimulate scalp

These aren’t instant fixes tho – try them for few weeks minimum.

8. Be gentle with your hair

This sounds basic but lots of us abuse our hair without realizing:

  • Don’t brush when it’s wet (breaks easily)

  • Use wide-tooth comb

  • Pat dry with t-shirt or soft towel (no rubbing!!)

  • Trim split ends

  • Don’t bleach or dye too often

Treat your hair like it’s delicate fabric. Cos it kinda is

Final Words

Look, hair fall can happen to anyone – men, women, teens, adults – but it doesn’t mean u just have to accept it. If you start taking care early, you can stop it from getting worse.

And remember – consistency is everything. No one got better hair from oiling once a month or eating 1 spinach leaf on Monday.

So take care of your hair from inside & outside. Be patient, stay calm, and your hair will thank you
